Om festivalen Opera i Fredrikstad er et nyt og spendende tiltak i Norsk kulturliv som startet opp med enorm sukksess sommeren 2009. Festivalen hylder operaen som kunstart ved at ta den ut av det tradisjonelle teater og lar den klinge på den historiske øya Isegran mitt i Glomma hvor admiral Peter Wessel Tordenskjold hadde sin viktige base under Den store Nordiske krig. øya som ligger mitt i Norges lengste elv Glomma, som renner ut i havet, mellom den gamle og den nye by i Fredrikstad. Bakgrunnen for festivalen er ønsket om at skape et nyt rom for opera. Et internasjonalt forum, hvor tradisjon kan møte nyskapelse og talent kan møde erfaring. Men samtidig holde forankringen i det historiske. Tanken er, at festivalen skal være en invitasjon til både nye initiativer fra den internasjonale talentelite og fra allerede etablertere krefter og institusjoner i miljøet. Festivalen ønsker at bidra til Fredrikstad, som kulturby, og samtidig gi operamiljøet mulighet for å gå nye veier og feire sig selv som kunstart. For at gi festivalen bredde og gjennomslagskraft, vil den hvile på følgende tre områder: Det klassiske opera repertoar, altså opera i sin mere tradisjonelle form. Opera der finner sted i utradisjonelle omgivelser, hvor rommet er en aktiv ramme og kommentar til forestillingene. Tvær kunstneriske operaprosjekter, hvor opera settes sammen med andre kunstarter. Festivalen henvender sig både til et publikum, der allerede er fortrolig med opera, og til de nysgjerrige for hvem opera er et nyt bekjentskap. Endelig henvender festivalen sig også til det publikum, som også interesserer sig for kunst, som søker nye grenser. Opera i Fredrikstad er blitt til på initiativ av operasangeren og multikunstneren Aage Dedekam i samarbeide med Fredrikstad Museum.

About the festival Opera in Fredrikstad is enjoy and spend measures in Norwegian cultural life that started out with enormous succes, summer of 2009. Festival homage opera as art form by taking it out of the traditional theater  on the historic island "Isegran" in the middle of the river Glomma where Admiral Peter Tordenskiold had its important base during the Great Nordic War. The island that lies in river Glomma whom is Norway's longest river, which flows into the sea, between the old and the new town of Fredrikstad. The reason for the festival is the desire for creating an enjoy the room for the opera. An international forum, where tradition meet innovation and talent can møde experience. But at the same time keep the anchor in the historic. The idea is, that the festival will be an invitation to both new initiatives from the international talent from small and already etablertere forces and institutions in the environment. The festival would like to contribute to Fredrikstad, that of culture, while giving the opera community the opportunity to go new ways and celebrate themselves as art. That give the festival breadth and impact, it will rest on the following three areas: The classic opera repertoire, that is the opera in its more traditional form. Site which will take place in exotic surroundings, where space is an active frame and comment on the performances. Tvær artistic opera projects, where the opera is put together with other art forms. The festival is aimed both herself to an audience, which is already familiar with opera, and the curious for whom the opera is an acquaintance enjoy. Finally, addressing the festival himself also to the audience, who also interests himself to art, seeking new frontiers. Opera in Fredrikstad has been to the initiative of the opera singer and multi-artist Aage Dedekam, in cooperation with the institution Fredrikstad Museeum.
